FAQS
Can we drive ourselves to our stargazing site?
No, we have concessions that require us to be responsible for transport to and from our venue. Collection & drop off are both from our designated location in the centre of Kaikoura.
What will we see on our tour?
What you will see depends on the time of year. There is a lot to experience in our night sky year-round, but certain times of the year are better for viewing specific objects. If you want to see something particular, please confirm the best viewing times. We are happy to answer any questions if you get in touch.
What happens if there is bad weather on the day of our tour and if it doesn’t go ahead, do we get refunded?
Our weather call is made by our head astronomer on the evening of the tour and can be made as late as an hour before the tour start time. Please do not assume the tour is cancelled due to weather; wait until you hear from our team. If we are forced to cancel due to weather conditions, you will receive a full refund minus a small administration fee.
What do I wear?
Dress warmly and according to the conditions. While it’s less critical in summer, we are at a higher altitude and exposed for a period of time, so we recommend dressing as warmly as possible. We provide blankets and hot chocolate, but we do not provide jackets, gloves, or hats.
